Participant Eligibility:
Engaged in farming for a minimum of 25 years.
Procedures:
Entries for this award recognition will be judged by a local committee made up of three Franklin County Agricultural Advisory Board Members.
Award:
The winner will receive their award at the Franklin County Farm City Luncheon.
Judging Criteria:
- Stewardship----------------------------------------------- (60 points)
- Community Leadership--------------------------------- (10 points)
- Education-------------------------------------------------- (10 points)
- Enrolled in VAD or EVAD Program------------------ (10 points)
- Heritage---------------------------------------------------- (10 points)
The entire operation, including livestock and property that is owned, rented, or operated by the nominee must be considered in the application.
I. Stewardship
Stewardship--Judges will consider-- general appearance of farmstead, sheds and fences in accordance with current conservation practices. The use of chemicals including handling, storage, applications, and the recycling of containers. The storage of fuels and fuel products, use of alternative fuels and solar energy or new energy source.
II. Community Leadership
Community participation--leadership activities at community, county, state and national level will be considered. This will include activities in church, farm organizations, civic organizations, and community development groups.
III. Education
Educational use - Use of farm for education by school groups, tours, presentations to outside groups, Ag classes, legislative delegations, use of farm to influence neighbors. How is the farm being used for education of others or getting the conservation message out?
IV. VAD/EVAD
Enrollment of farm parcels in the Voluntary Agriculture District Program or the Enhanced Voluntary Ag District Program.
V. Heritage
The qualities, traditions, or features of life on the farm that have continued over many years and have been passed on from generation to generation.
