North Carolina Agriculture and Technical University (NC A&T) celebrates the 37th Annual Small Farms Week Celebration from March 27th-31st, 2023. This celebration is an annual tribute to small-scale agriculture and the week will offer a variety of in person educational programs. Events will be held at the Environmental Sciences Extension and Research Farm Pavilion at A & T University. Farmers and interested members of the public can register for all events via the Small Farms Week web page.

The N.C. Cooperative Extension, Granville County Center is planning its own events to support small farmers and make the public more aware of the importance of agriculture. Check out the schedule of activities below:

Small Farm Video Series: During the week, join our Ag agents as they travel around the county and talk with the small farmers in the community. Each day a video will be available on our website and Youtube channel introducing a small farmer in the area.

Kickoff Monday  – Monday, March 27

Do you enjoy gardening and cooking? Drop by the Extension office, Southern States in Oxford and Creedmoor, Ace Hardware, Town & Country Hardware, and Steve’s Lawn & Garden to get your free wildflower seeds along with some recipe cards to help get you cooking healthy foods. Available all week long or until supplies run out.

Also, youth can learn more about agriculture by registering for a free 4-H kit from our Acres Adventure curriculum for 5-12 year olds.

Fuel the Future Flier

Feel the Future! Join the virtual Lunch N’ Learn today. Learn about the different nutrients found in foods, describe what makes a food nutrient-dense and explain ways to fuel the future on a limited budget. Register at go.ncsu.edu/granvilleevents

Wellness Wednesday  – Wednesday, March 29

Thanks to everyone who contributed to our Small Farms Week food drive. We will be delivering those meal bags to families across all of Granville County. Also, remember the Area Congregations in Ministry (ACIM) building is open for donations on M/W/F from noon to 1:00 p.m. or T/Th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

Thank you farmer barn picture

Today we give thanks for the food on our tables and to all of the farmers that work hard to keep us fed. We will be distributing thank you cards created by our REACH afterschool program students to local farmers.

Ag Career Day Friday – Friday, March 31

Students will join us and our community partners to learn about various agriculture careers in the county. They will have the opportunity to tour a farm, the Oxford Research Station and participate in interactive booths.

Simply Saturday

One of the simple things you can do this Saturday is to support your local farms by using the VisitNC Farms App to find local farms near you.
