Please join us in welcoming Dr. Kurt Smith to the NC State Extension Forestry team!

Dr. Kurt Smith is an Assistant Professor of Forestry and an Extension Specialist. Kurt is a graduate of both Oregon State University and North Carolina State University. Most recently, he taught environmental and natural resource policy at Sam Houston State University in Texas. He has extensive work experience in forestry, open space and environmental planning at the local and state level, and experience in consulting work. Kurt hopes to contribute in part by helping landowners to retain forested land by educating landowners about heirs property liabilities, succession planning, and making working lands both sustainable and profitable. We are excited to have such a knowledgeable addition to our team!
