Collapse ▲Winter Field Crop Update
The 2023 Regional Tobacco Production Meeting along with GAP Training will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude around 11:30 a.m. The location will be the Franklin Plaza in Louisburg, 279 South Bickett Blvd. Louisburg, NC (beside Tractor Supply). Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. Please arrive prior to the meeting for registration. There will be snacks and drinks provided.
The meeting is designed to provide you with GAP recertification training as well as production information for the 2023 growing season.
Please note the following important information:
- Space is limited! Registration is required, and early registration is recommended.
- To register, go online to go.ncsu.edu/regionaltobaccogapmeeting2023 or for questions contact Franklin County Cooperative Extension at 919-496-3344.
- Registration deadline is 5 p.m., January 20th, or when maximum capacity has been reached.
- Bring your GAP card to the training to be certain you receive credit.
- Bring your Pesticide License if you would like to receive pesticide credits (if you have misplaced your card, you may be requested to show a photo ID). 2 hours of pesticide credit will be provided in categories (NODX).
- You may wish to bring your GAP notebook, as we will be providing updated references and record keeping forms.
- If you are unable to attend, note that there are several other trainings planned across the state. Visit the NCSU Tobacco Growers Portal to find a training that you can attend.
Following the Tobacco GAP Meeting we will be offering the fumigant recertification training for you to receive credit for your fumigant license. We will start this one-hour training at 11:30 a.m. or immediately following the tobacco meeting.

ANNUAL RESPIRATOR FIT TEST OFFERED FOR PESTICIDE APPLICATORS
You will have the opportunity to be fit tested at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office in Louisburg on February 15, 2023. Call the office by February 10th at 919-496-3344 to set up a 30-minute appointment to complete the test. Appointments will start at 9:00 a.m. The cost for the test will be $25.00 (please bring a check made payable to the NC Agromedicine Institute). If you do not come medically cleared, then there will be an additional cost of $20 for the medical clearance ($45 for both the fit-test and medical clearance). Check with local physicians’ offices, urgent care facilities and occupational health clinics to determine whether or not they can provide medical clearance services if you would like. You will also need to bring your own respirator if you have one and be sure to shave before coming.
