COVID-19 Farmers Update 12/10/2020

North Carolina: Executive Order 181 Explained

The new Executive Order 181 (Implementing a Modified Stay at Home Order and Requiring Nighttime Closure for Certain Businesses and Activities for All North Carolinians During Overnight Hours) brings some major changes for businesses and residents in North Carolina amid the rise of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations in North Carolina. The North Carolina government has release a FAQ sheet that addresses commonly asked questions. Please protect others over the holidays.

THE ORDER IS EFFECTIVE FROM DECEMBER 11 2020, 5 p.m. to JANUARY 8 2021, 5 p.m.

Here are some major changes under this order:

  • All individuals in North Carolina must stay at home for the night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. (unless exceptions apply).
  • Events and convenings outside of the home must end by 10 p.m. and guests must leave the establishment.
  • Sale of alcoholic beverages for on-site consumption is prohibited between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Certain businesses need to close between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. (inside dining restaurants, bars, entertainment, museums, parks, retail etc.). Grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations are not affected.
  • Capacity for indoor (10) and outdoor (50) gatherings remain in place until January 8 2021.
  • FACE COVERINGS are REQUIRED for all public indoor settings or when non-family members are present indoors, regardless of social distancing or the individuals health!
  • FACE COVERINGS are also REQUIRED for public outdoor gatherings, if a six-feet distance can’t be achieved between non-household members.

If your operation was affected by COVID-19, apply online here. You have until December 11, 2020 (tomorrow) at 5 p.m. EST. Please reach out to your local Extension agent or crop specialist for help!
