2019 Winter Horse Educational Series

Horse owners in the area are invited to participate in the popular annual “Horse Mini-­Series” which will begin on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Franklin County Center Annex meeting room.

A sponsored meal will begin the evening at 6 p.m. followed by the program on Trail Riding and Trail Etiquette. Guest speaker will be Jim Thomas from the North Carolina Horse Council. Jim is an equine trainer and trail rider. He is an expert in training trail horses and understanding both human and equine behavior.

Horse Series Meeting Schedule & Information:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 15 – 6 p.m. Dinner and Program in Annex.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 19 – Deworming and Feeding the Senior Horse; Dr. Courtney Bohart of Neuse River Equine Hospital; 6 p.m. Dinner followed by the program in Annex.
  • Tuesday, March 19 Agritourism/Farms Stays on the Horse Farm, Angela Hyson of Keats Point Farm and Mobley, Ag Agent; 6 p.m., dinner, and program in Annex.

Educational meetings will continue monthly through March concluding with a visit and tour of NC State University’s Equine Unit and School of Veterinary Equine unit in May 2019.
