Visit NC Farms App Interest Meetings
Oxford, NC – Farmers and Agritourism business owners are invited to an interest meeting to discuss the new “Visit NC Farms” app that is currently under development by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. There are two meetings scheduled, with the first being a breakfast meeting starting at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018. This meeting will be held at the Granville County Expo Center located at 4185 US Hwy 15 South, Oxford, NC.
Presenters at this meeting will be Gena Stephens, owner of Carlee Farm, located near Oxford, NC, Jack Pleasant, owner of Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm located near Roxboro, NC, and Annie Baggett, NCDA&CS Agritourism Marketing Specialist. These presenters will be describing their businesses and how they think having an app for smart phones and tablets can benefit Agritourism in this area.
The second meeting will be held at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Center, 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg, NC, on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, starting at 6:30 p.m. Presenters at this dinner meeting will be Russ Vollmer of Vollmer Farm, Bob Sykes of Turtle Mist Farm LLC., and Annie Baggett of NCDA&CS.
“We’re convinced that in today’s marketing climate, an app that can be downloaded onto a smart phone or tablet and be used to show the public where farms and agritourism venues and events are located will be a benefit to the region’s agricultural economy,” says Paul Westfall, County Extension Director in Granville and Person Counties. “Also, since we are approaching this on a regional basis with NC Cooperative Extension of Granville, Person, Franklin, Vance, and Warren Counties working together with the Kerr-Tar Council of Governments and the NCDA&CS, farms, agribusiness, and agritourism across the regions should benefit by helping potential customers from outside the region to find their locations.”
The “Visit NC Farms” app project is sponsored by the NCDA&CS, NC Cooperative Extension of Granville, Person, Franklin, Vance and Warren Counties, and the Kerr-Tar Council of Governments.
Farmers, Agribusiness owners, and Agritourism business owners interested in attending one of these meetings are encouraged to RSVP by calling one of the phone numbers below and specifying which meeting they would like to be a part of.
